This breath-taking and beautiful area that is known by many as being the city of the golden land, has grown and developed into a unique and popular resort area for the visitor who would like a touch of enjoyment that is a little different than the average, busy tourist area.  Time seems to slowly go by in Polis, having that care-free atmosphere to just take your time and breathe in all of the beauty and tranquility.  You can even see some of the many old and beautiful homes that date back to the start of this century.  The spectacular view of the gorgeous scenery and beauty to be found on the sandy beaches is very memorable to any visitor of Polis.  The quiet, little town seems to be perfectly situated among a beautiful patchwork of large vineyards and bountiful citrus groves.

The homes and buildings that are located in the area, are built having their very own unique sugar cube like appearance.  This might in fact be a fairly small town to some, but the charm and the brilliant character that this small town portrays will always be enjoyed and remembered by many a visitor.

This town is very popular among those who would like to get away from the business and the usual hustle and bustle that can be found in so many of the larger cities and tourist areas.
During the daytime hours, you will be able to notice the sweet smelling, brightly colored, and not to mention taste tempting produce that can be found anywhere in the central plaza, as it is a daily market for all to enjoy during the day, and during the evening hours you will see a change take place as tables are filled with plate after plate of delicious tasting local fresh water fish and meze.  You will also find several tiny coffee shops, restaurants, and ice cream parlors along the plaza to enjoy after your visit in the archeological museum taking in the view with its many medieval frescoes to see and enjoy.

There are also many beautiful areas to see in Polis that are some of the least spoiled areas of the beautiful countryside that this beautiful town has to offer.

Argaka and the Polis area of Cyprus

The beautiful land here has enjoyed the ability to thrive even long after the closure of the copper mines, that were known for bringing plenty of wealth to the area, because of the vast fertility found in the land.  With bringing in the modern day methods, the rich agricultural side of Argaka can enjoy the profitable benefits that the produce grown in the fields can bring to the area.  Many vegetable farmers line along the rich land as the area benefits them greatly with the way it is irrigated naturally.  You will notice the sight of several greenhouses and vegetable fields growing such items as tomatoes, legumes, vegetables, forage plants, citrus fruits, and olive trees.

The beauty of this village is outstanding, with several attractive streams gingerly making their way down the slopes and out to the rush of the sea.

Prodromi and the Polis area of Cyprus

Prodromi is a small village with many vineyards, citrus trees, and pecan tress located all around, the picturesque mountains that have rolling hills leading to these steep hills filled with lush green foliage. It is quite and exciting backdrop for a view from the window or lanai and one the many people who return to Cyprus time after time will find easy to forget.

The village holds the temple that is devoted to the god of medicine, Askilpio, along with a natural spring that is said to have curing waters. This village also holds one of the first churches of the Byzantine churches, called Panagia as well as a Roman graveyard. This church has what is known as tooth brick decoration and is filled with frescos.  In this village they are known for their production of olive oil as well as their wine that comes from the dry rocky soil of the village. As this village is reached on narrow roads that are accessible with four-wheel drive vehicles it has kept it mainly unspoiled for centuries and is a vacationers delight. Also found here is Yrakina that is an ancient city from the prehistoric period that has a castle made of large rock for the visitor that wants to look to the past.
